Snoring Solution – a Low-Risk, Low-Cost Investment

Originally posted: December 5, 2023

If you asked me about my sleep, I would say I have always been a good sleeper. But things have changed over the years and, clearly, I haven’t been taking account.

According to the Mayo Clinic, “Snoring is the hoarse or harsh sound that occurs when air flows past relaxed tissues in your throat, causing the tissues to vibrate as you breathe. Nearly everyone snores now and then, but for some people it can be a chronic problem. Sometimes it may also indicate a serious health condition.”

I know all of this firsthand because, yes, I snore.

Historically, I’ve been a good sleeper, boasting a consistent seven hours for years. I didn’t always snore, but it has gotten worse the last 10 years. Now, I snore loudly and often enough that my partner has had to leave the room to sleep. That is awful and it’s embarrassing.

So, a month ago I ordered a customizable anti-snoring mouthpiece on-line as an investment in our relationship. There are a lot of mouthpiece options on-line, but I chose VitalSleep.

I wore it the first night and it was … different — odd and unfamiliar, but I fell asleep AND I didn’t snore.

What shocked me most, though, was I didn’t wake up that night, not to even to turn over. I also didn’t wake up the next night, nor the following night. Seven hours of uninterrupted sleep a night for a month. What witchery is this?

I now realize that my snoring not only disturbed my partner’s sleep, but it was also clearly disturbing mine and I didn’t know it. The Mayo clinic lists a number of symptoms that accompany snoring. Here are the ones I suffered:

  • Excessive daytime sleepiness
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Restless sleep
  • Snoring so loud is disrupted my partners sleep

The mouthpiece is a game changer. It was a low-risk, low-cost ($70 USD) investment in my relationship so my partner could sleep, but it ended up having a huge impact on the quality and quantity of MY sleep.
