The Horton Plan is a death benefit paid to a chosen beneficiary of sworn members at the time of your death. It is only available to police members who are currently serving or members who are superannuated (retired).
The VPD / PMBA / VPU benefit is paid within two weeks of your passing, completely separate from your pension.
When you were first sworn in, you would have nominated a beneficiary. It is important to update your beneficiary, if your relationships change. If you are unsure who you listed as your beneficiary, or if you wish to make a change, you can contact the Horton Plan caretaker:
Constable Harry Wong

While you’re at it, log into your BC Municipal Pension Plan (BCMPP) (call 1-877-558-5573) and your Tax Free Savings Account (TFSA) accounts (contact your bank) and make sure you have updated your beneficiary there, too!
